I remember that girlfriend I had in college; she wasn’t like that. And I notice my friend Stan’s wife doesn’t do it, and they’ve been together a long time. Maybe I can attract a woman who isn’t bent on changing me.

Marriage spells the end of freedom.

Well, it certainly means I’d have to be accountable for my time, whereabouts, and who I see. That might not be so bad, actually. I wouldn’t mind someone caring about where I am and who I see. Maybe we could talk about how much personal freedom is OK in a relationship—maybe I can attract someone who’s open to that kind of discussion.
